Utah and Summer

We also found a big rock which I liked to jump off of
This summer, I've been doing a lot of swimming. I especially like jumping off the edge of the pool (is there a pattern here?) and diving for my octopus and crab.

When it's too hot outside, I like to paint with water colors. Here I am with some of my recent work.
Grandma Sharp's Garden
Abstract: In early November we visited Wisconsin. Here are some photos from when I got to help Grandma Sharp in the garden.
Body: Grandma's garden was mostly put to bed by November, but she saved some potato digging for me. I didn't know potatoes came from the ground!
Here I am getting the shovel out of the shed
The we dug around in the dirt until we found some potatoes and I got to put them in the pan.
And my favorite part was when Grandma helped me was the dirt off in a big trough of water. I LOVE playing in the water!
Later we ran around with Snickers. She likes sticks as much as I do! Here we are taking a rest.
Summer Vacation
I'm back from a long hiatus. I've been very, very busy. Lessee. Mostly, I'm running everywhere, walking, talking, jumping, and pretty much pretending like I'm a big kid as much as I can (though I do like to play around a lot and have temper tantrums still). For a while, my parents were trying to count the number of words in my vocabulary and write them down. But now they've given up. I'm learning things too fast for them! Pretty soon I'll be ready for calculus (though, first things first..kayaking comes before calculus!)
Well, so what have we been up to? Maybe I should just start with one thing: summer vacation. We went out west so mommy and maddie could go kayaking, we visited with grandma and grandpa, and we went to Maddie's brother's wedding. It was a great trip, though lots of driving! We put almost 2,000 miles on the car, and we flew from NC to SLC! So here are a few pictures:

Park (picture by Margaret
Peterson)
Here we are at the main summit in
Glacier NP. I was a great hiker
that day! I didn't want
to turn around.
Here I am, being a
good
camper (and
showing the scrapes on my face
from
all my
falls!)
Here, Grandma and I rode the tram
to the top of big mountain
(MT), while
Mommy, Maddie, and Grandpa rode their
bikes to
the top. They acted really tired when they got to the
top!
Here I am at the
wedding. My
first time as a flower girl! (at 16.5 months!).
Notice I couldn't leave
behind my
baby doll! My friend Whitney led me to where I was
supposed to go.

Here I am with my
family, in front of the Teton mountains near Jackson
Hole, WY
And, I'll close with one final
picture. It was really hot when we got home, and kind
of boring compared to being on vacation. But one fun
thing we did was go blueberry picking! I had a great
time. So here's a picture. Actually, two. I couldn't
help myself.
Escape with the
water bottle!
Helping pick
blueberries. I actually helped for 20
minutes!
Ok, I've got to go to bed! But, hey, I will write again soon. I have some fun movies to show you. So, stay tuned!
Trip to Utah
...So I got to ride in the backpack on parents shoulders while we walked around in all sorts of funny canyons where there were no trees!

Hey fan club!
Well, I just got back from another big trip, and decided it was time to report to y'all (that's my new found southern speak).
We went to Utah on vacation.
First, all this funny white stuff came down on us. Maddy and mommy are weird. They strapped these big long boards on their feet and then went traipsing into the cold white stuff. Me, I preferred just pushing it around and running around in it.

But, parents made me wear this funny pink suit that made me look like the Michelin man in drag.
(parents note: it snowed around 50" while we were there, and we had some great skiing!)
Oh, yeah, and parents ran into cousin Val in the parking lot of Alta. Very wierd. He's from Washington DC, and here we all were in Utah at the same ski resort by coincidence. While, cousin Christine volunteered to watch after me for a bit so Maddy and Mommy could ski together. Hey, that was fun being away from the parents!
Then, we did some even weirder stuff. We went to this place where there are almost no trees, and weird mushroom looking rocks all over the place. Check this out:
(oh, yeah, since it was cold
they made me wear the pink suit
again!)
So
I got to ride in the backpack on parents shoulders
while we walked around in all sorts of funny canyons
where there were no trees!

And then
we camped out along a river that mommy and maddy kept
calling "Green" even though it was more like gray! I
loved rolling in the sand!

So, the
trip was great. The only part I hated was that metal
tube we had to ride up in the sky to get home. I
think it's called a hareplane! I had to sit in one
place for, like, four hours! How evil was
that?
Coming back to North
Carolina was kind of strange with all the green
around everywhere! But, hey, it's home! It is nice to
sleep on a regular schedule again! Only if now we
could all get over our nasty little
colds.

Winter Travels
WINTER TRAVELS
Hi Fans-
The last couple months I've been a travellin' soldier as we zipped from one end of the country to the other. Whew - I'm worn out and ready to stop driving for awhile! In November I got to meet a bunch of people in California who all thought I was pretty cute - you'd think they were relatives or something (oh, Mom says they WERE relatives...)
Me with Great Grandma Kay
Great Aunt and Uncle, Bojan and Norm, who taught me how to clap
In December, we went to DC for the weekend to visit my cultural advisors, Jenn and Yuri
Cousins - Christine, Calvin, Naomi, and Val
At Great Falls
I also discovered there's this thing called Christmas - we celebrated it about 4 or 5 times, so it must be pretty important. We had to spend a lot of time in the car though....
Christmas # 1 at home
Christmas #2 - Grandma and Grandpa Sharp
Christmas #3 - Grandma and Grandpa Peterson, Uncle Mark and Aunt Lynn
Christmas #4 - Grandma Leslie and Kieth
On our travels to Wisconsin, it was very cold compared to North Carolina, and the ground was covered with this white stuff that felt really funny - I think it's called snow. Mom and Maddy bundled me up in some really bulky clothing so I could hardly move, but I managed to touch the snow. I wasn't too sure about it though....
There's lots more pictures, but not much time. Have fun fans!

We made it home alive!
We got home from our trip out west. Boy, that was a lot of time spent in my car seat. We travelled 7,000 miles, which means I spent like 100 hours in my car seat!!! Fortunately, my parents stopped lots of times to take breaks and let me check out the trees, and to try to crawl around.
I've now seen both coasts:
East Coast:

West Coast:
And I got to meet my great grandmother Katherine:
We hung out with Great Aunt & Uncle Betsy and Gary:

and that was all just in the first week!
We then headed to Idaho, but I got my first experience with the desert in Southeastern Oregon, along the way:
Idaho was great. I met lots of other friends, including Sonya and Miles:
And I got to see lots of new places. I also met some pretty strange characters on that trip:
I couldn't really figure them out. Are they aliens? Someone needs to tell me...
I even got to try out my first hot springs:
These ones you can get to the perfect temperature by filling up the tub with a mix of hot and cold water!
After spending a wonderful week of camping in Idaho, we had to leave. But on the way back, we got to see lots of friends and family:
And then we had the long drive home....
Now I'm working back into a normal routine, though I still like staying up really late, because that's way more fun than going to bed. I'm rolling over from back to stomach, the latter being my preferred sleeping position. And, I'm eating some solid foods now. Look at how much fun I'm having:
I hope we go on more adventures soon!

Ahh, the West
Here we are at a rest stop:
Last night, we got to New Mexico at about 8 PM. We stopped to make dinner. The wind was the worst I've ever seen. Check out mom's hair in this picture:
But with all the clouds and wind, there was a beautiful sunset. Usually I only put pictures of me here, but I thought this one is pretty neat:
So, today we're going to Flagstaff. Fortunately for me, it is a short drive - only about 500 miles! We made such good time the first two days that we're going to take it a bit easy today. Maybe we'll even get to go on a hike! That would be fun!
I'll write again when we get to California.
Bye,
Eva
I'm in OK, you're O.K.
Here I am writing to you from Oklahoma. Even thought it's flat as a pancake around here, the dry air sure is nice! We stopped at a rest-stop where there was a nice grove of oaks, and some big prairies. Mom fed me there, and it was a very relaxing place to take a break. Next we hit Texas, but fortunately we only have to drive through the panhandle, not the whole state. Otherwise we'd be in Texas for way too long! Then onto NM and AZ!
We're having a pretty good road trip. We've been on the road for two days. Yesterday I got pretty cranky about having to sit in my car seat for so long - we got into camp past 11PM, and there were lots of mosquitos there! But, today I'm getting used to the car seat and don't mind so much. Plus, today we got a good head start at 5:30 AM, when I was still fast asleep, so I slept through a lot of today's drive. Tonight we'll probably stay somewhere in TX or hopefully NM.
Here are a few pictures of me at the rest stop in OK:
Well, that's all for now. I hope to write again in the next day or two to let you know how we're progressing!
Eva (and parents)
Went to the beach (3 mo update)
So there's been lots of stuff going on.
Toys!
I got some new toys that my parents bought at one of those huge chain stores. Here I am playing in one (it's kind of like a "Baby Einstein")

Hiking!
Mom and dad like to take me hiking. Here we are by Jordan Lake Reservoir on a short hike, trying to beat the thunderstorms.
Smiling!
And of course, I like smiling! Here are a few shots of me with my parents, smiling away!
Biking!
I got another cool toy too (it's been a big month, and it's not even my birthday!). It's called "the chariot". I get to ride in it while my parents take me where I want to go! Here's me for my first ride in my chariot:
Boating!
Just last weekend we went to the beach. We had a great time. We got to ride on Bob's big boat (it has a HUGE motor) down the inside waterway, and went to lunch. Here we are on the boat:
Elise, Eva, Tina,
Robbie, and Betty
Hanging out and drinking beer!
Once we got to lunch, I was
ready for a beer. Especially since I had the cool hat
on that Bill and Laurel sent!

The Beach!
So
the last thing we did is go to the beach. Here's my
first time on the beach:
Thunderstorm!
The
only problem is that there was a huge thunderstorm
that came in really fast, and since my parents aren't
immune to lightning, we had to leave. Here we are in
the van waiting out the thunderstorm:
Fortunately, I
was a good kid on the drive home, since mom was
driving by herself.
That's All Folks!
Well, that's about all I have to report for now!
Stay tuned for reports from my big trip out
west!
